Yokoo Tadanori: State of Emergency Declaration

Poster design: Yokoo Tadanori

Due to the novel coronavirus, our daily lives have undergone a complete change.
The idea that an infectious disease could spread on a global scale seems like something out of a movie while also filling us with the sensation that the line between fact and fiction has become increasingly blurred. Quite a long time before the coronavirus crisis, Yokoo Tadanori repeatedly depicted tense circumstances in which fact seemed to blend together with fiction. In this exhibition, we focus on these critical situations in Yokoo’s painting. As a kind of reaction to the virus, Yokoo is also creating an online series called With Corona, a collage of various imagery including masks and mouth cavities. An installation of these works, scattered throughout the galleries, is also included in this exhibition.
