Poster design: Yokoo Tadanori
In viewing the art of Yokoo Tadanori, it sometimes seems as if you have strayed into another dimension. In this exhibition, we escort the viewer into a parallel realm that borders reality through a collection of wonders from Yokoo World.
Just as Alice’s adventures in Lewis Carroll’s book Alice in Wonderland start with her falling down the rabbit hole, the first section of this exhibition, Yokoo in Wonderland, begins with a girl jumping into a hole. There she discovers an underground kingdom and a cave before continuing on her journey beneath the sea, into space, and deep into an unknown world. In the second section, “The Looking-Glass World,” the girl passes through a mirror just as Alice did and encounters a maniacal realm in which real and virtual images are jumbled together. And in the third section, “The Land of Dreams,” she enters a surrealistic world of reality intertwined with unreality.
We hope that when you open the door to Yokoo Tadanori’s Wonderland, you will find yourself immersed in an infinitely expanding universe.
